Congresswoman Nikema Williams Statement on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's Confirmation to Supreme Court Bench

Statement

Date: April 7, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Judicial Branch

Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as a Supreme Court Justice.

Congresswoman Williams said:

"Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation as the first Black woman to serve as a Supreme Court Justice is a historic moment. I attended Judge Jackson's confirmation hearing where her legal brilliance was on display. The magnitude of that moment as Judge Jackson proved to little Black girls everywhere that they can now become a Supreme Court Justice filled me with optimism for our country.

"Today's confirmation shows how far Black women have come. That not a single Black woman was able to vote for Judge Jackson's confirmation because there are no Black women in the US Senate amplifies how far we still have to go toward full representation. Judge Jackson brings much-needed diversity of perspective and background to the Supreme Court and her confirmation is a tremendous step toward true equality for all."
