Mccollum Responds To Mississippi River On "Most Endangered" List: My Bill Offers Solution To Restore River

Statement

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) issued the following statement today after American Rivers released its 2022 America's Most Endangered Rivers report, with the Mississippi River listed #6:

"When I was growing up in South St. Paul, enjoying the Mississippi River for recreation was unthinkable, because it had become heavily polluted. Now after major efforts to protect the Mississippi, it remains a working river -- important for shipping and commerce, jobs, and our economy -- AND it is a place families can enjoy; it is a source of drinking water for millions; and it is an important corridor for migrating birds. But we can't let up now: it remains a river at risk, as this designation makes clear. That's why I introduced the Mississippi River Restoration and Resilience Initiative (MRRRI) Act in Congress. I'm so grateful to be working with a broad coalition of stakeholders and partners to develop this legislation to establish a coordinated approach up and down the Mississippi's corridor. Working together, we can restore and protect the river's vitality, and Keep it Mighty for the next generation."
