Pelosi: Middle Class Being Squeezed by Bush Economic Policies
Washington, D.C.- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to comments by Treasury Secretary John Snow published today on President Bush's economic policies:
"The Treasury Secretary's contention that Americans are better off under President Bush's economic policies ignores the realities that middle-class families struggle with every day. From rising health care costs, skyrocketing energy prices, and the increasing cost of college tuition, America's middle-class is being squeezed. Americans are paying the price for the President's addiction to tax cuts for millionaires, giveaways to big oil special interests, and skyrocketing deficits; middle-class Americans can no longer afford President Bush and the rubber stamp Republican Congress.
"Democrats have a better plan that will take our country in a new direction and foster economic growth that benefits all Americans, not just the wealthy few. Our Innovation Agenda will create good-paying jobs and keep America the global leader in discovery and invention. Democrats have offered legislation that makes health care more accessible, education more affordable, and lowers the cost at the pump. Together, America can do better than an economic policy that puts the special interests ahead of the American people."
