Gooden Demands Pelosi, Schumer Prioritize Americans Over Chinese Workers

Statement

On Wednesday, Congressman Lance Gooden (R-Texas), joined by Reps. Jake Elzey (R-TX), Mary Miller (R-IL), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Mo Brooks (R-AL), and Louie Gohmert (R-TX), sent a letter to House and Senate leadership requesting the final version of the America COMPETES Act not include immigration provisions that would harm American workers and our economic competitiveness.

Rep. Lance Gooden said, "House Democrats continue to prioritize China at the expense of the American worker, our national security, and our economic competitiveness abroad. The immigration provisions of the COMPETES Act would result in an endless stream of foreign nationals who would take jobs from United States citizens. These provisions must be removed from the bill, or the United States will continue to lose the race with communist China."

The House passed version of the America COMPETES Act, which Congressman Gooden opposed, included a "green card giveaway" that prioritizes a wide variety of foreign graduates, including chemists, doctors, engineers, statisticians, accountants, tax experts, software developers, and computer security experts, that would benefit Big Tech and harm American jobseekers. It is vital the House and Senate conference committees remove these provisions from the legislation.
