Rep. Zeldin Presses Secretary Blinken on Iran Nuclear Deal Negotiations, Iran's Past Violations of JCPOA

At today's House Foreign Affairs committee hearing, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a U.S. Army veteran, questioned Secretary of State Antony Blinken about the Biden Administration's recent efforts to enter a nuclear agreement with Iran.

During the hearing, Congressman Zeldin pressed Secretary Blinken to say whether an agreement with Iran would be submitted to Congress as a treaty. Despite this potential agreement clearly matching the Secretary's own definition of "treaty", he refused to commit to abiding by Congress' constitutionally granted treaty ratification role. Secretary Blinken also refused to rule out joining an agreement that does not update the 2015 JCPOA sunset provisions. Watch here.

Not only did Secretary Blinken refuse to commit to submitting a nuclear agreement with Iran to Congress for ratification as a treaty, but he wouldn't even consent today to submitting the entire agreement to Congress at all. Watch here.
