Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) joined a letter to the House Appropriations Committee urging them to "prevent any federal funds from being used to promote or advance concepts associated with Critical Race Theory (CRT)."
The full text of the letter is below:
As you begin work on the fiscal year (FY) 2023 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, we urge you to prevent any federal funds from being used to promote or advance concepts associated with Critical Race Theory (CRT).
Critical Race Theory is a destructive ideology based on race essentialism and peddled by neoMarxists that in the past decades has captured academia, powerful corporations, media organizations, and even churches, having become a bizarre and twisted religion for those starved of true faith and fellowship. CRT acolytes view all aspects of society through the prism of race, asserting its paramount importance in every human interaction. Furthermore, it views the United States as a fundamentally evil nation that is "systemically racist" and can only be redeemed by its citizens committing themselves to class warfare in the eternal name of "anti-racism."
Leftist educators maintain that Critical Race Theory is simply an academic theory, taught in law schools and discussed in faculty lounges, that examines how race intersects with the American legal system. This is a lie. Make no mistake: Critical Race Theory is not a good faith effort to examine the history of racism and create a more perfect union. In fact, Critical Race Theorists disdain the very notion of equality, with one prominent CRT scholar, Ibram X. Kendi, claiming: "The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination the only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination." Nor is CRT merely about teaching an accurate account of slavery, segregation, and the other deleterious parts of our nation's history -- American students have been taught these concepts for generations. Rather, CRT is an ideological weapon used by Marxian leftists to sow race-based division and hatred in America.
Needless to say, no serious country should allow its young people to be indoctrinated with the notion that their country is a wicked place and that the solution to racism is more racism. That leftist educators are so enthusiastic about teaching this cancerous philosophy is an indictment of our entire corrupted education system and perhaps our mental health system, as well. Simply put, CRT is state-sanctioned racism and part of a two-pronged strategy by leftists to corrupt the minds and souls of American children. Congress should take every action to dismantle this strategy.
For these reasons, we encourage you to include language in the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill to prevent any funds from going to any entity that teaches or advances CRT. American children deserve an education that shapes them to be good citizens and patriots -- not one that indoctrinates them into the tenets of race-based communism. We appreciate your consideration of this request.
