REP. TED BUDD SPONSORS BILL TO USE TITLE 42 TO STOP FENTANYL AT BORDER

Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) has sponsored H.R. 7359, the Stop Fentanyl Border Crossings Act. The bill allows the Title 42 public health order to be extended beyond May 23, 2022 and authorizes it to be used to stop Fentanyl smuggling at the southern border.

The legislation was originally introduced by Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN).

Rep. Budd said in a statement:

"By announcing the end of Title 42, the Biden administration has opened the floodgates to a surge of illegal immigration into our country. This is dangerous and unacceptable. Title 42 has been effectively used since 2020 to give our border patrol agents a fighting chance to maintain operational control of the border. This bill expands the scope of Title 42 so that it can be used to intercept deadly drugs like Fentanyl from entering the United States and costing the lives of thousands of Americans. I'd like to thank Rep. DesJarlais for leading this important piece of legislation."
