Today, Rep. Ted Budd joined Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) and more than a dozen other House members to send a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland urging him to take action and create a national strategy to combat the rise in retail crime across the United States.

Rep. Budd said in a statement:
"As crime surges across our country, it is time for the federal government to develop a comprehensive strategy to combat these retail crimes and support the law enforcement officers who do their best to keep our communities safe every day."
Background:
According to the National Retail Foundation, 65% of its survey respondents in 2021 indicated that "theft gangs" are exhibiting more violence and aggression.
Nearly 70% reported increases in organized retail crime.
Both increases are markedly larger than in previous years.
