ADERHOLT STATEMENT ON ARREST OF SUSPECTED CHURCH ARSONISTS

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today made the following statement on the arrest of Matthew Lee Cloyd, Benjamin Moseley, and Russell Lee DeBusk, Jr. The three are being charged with conspiracy and individual counts of arson at five Bibb County churches and four in west Alabama:

"I am encouraged to see arrests made in this case. These men, of course, are innocent until proven guilty, but their arrests are a testimony to the diligent work done by local and federal law enforcement and investigators. It is now in the hands of our judicial system. I am hopeful that this is the end of a tragic chain of events that has hit Alabama.

"These men have not been charged with the arson of the Beaverton Freewill Baptist Church in Lamar County. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Headquarters has assured me that they are committed to solving all the cases involved, including the Beaverton case. My staff has requested that all the resources possible be devoted to making sure that answers are found as soon as possible."
