Sanders Responds to Announcement that the UAE will Transfer Port Operations to an American Company

Washington D.C.—Congressman Bernie Sanders, who has been a staunch critic of the Bush Administration's support for a deal which would allow U.S. ports to be owned by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), offered the following statement today in response to the announcement that the UAE would transfer operations to an American company. Sanders said, "I'm glad that tri-partisan congressional opposition to this transaction is having an impact, but much more needs to be done. The statement by the UAE today leaves a number of unanswered questions. No matter who may actually run the ports, the question of a foreign government which has had ties to terrorists owning any American ports remains extremely problematic. We need a lot more information before any final decision can be made."
