Rep. Delgado Partners with New York State Sheriffs' Association, Upstate Law Enforcement to Push for More Funding for Local Police Departments

Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) held a press conference at the New York State Sheriffs' Association to highlight his bipartisan bill that would provide law enforcement in small towns and rural areas with the resources, recruiting tools, and training they need to keep themselves and their communities safe. The bipartisan Invest in Law Enforcement Act creates a new federal grant program for local law enforcement in New York and across the country. At the press conference, Congressman Delgado called for swift passage of this bipartisan legislation. Delgado was joined by Sheriff Smith, Sheriff Figueroa, Sheriff Apple, SheriffMaciol, and Undersheriff Salvatore.

"I am proud to support law enforcement across our state and country as they work to build bridges within our communities and keep us safe," said Rep. Delgado. "It was great to join Sheriff Smith, Sheriff Figueroa, Sheriff Apple, SheriffMaciol, and Undersheriff Salvatore at the New York State Sheriffs' Association today to push for my bipartisan legislation to fund local law enforcement. Keeping our communities safe requires us to overcome the partisan divide and join together in support of our local police departments. I will keep working with Democrats and Republicans to move this bill forward and get upstate law enforcement the resources they need."

Rep. Delgado's bill has been endorsed by the New York State Sheriffs' Association, Fraternal Order of Police, National Sheriffs Association, State Troopers Fraternal Association, and the National Association of Police Organizations.

Rep. Delgado is a strong supporter of law enforcement and has consistently worked to ensure departments in his district are funded. Delgado recently secured $25,000 for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in a bipartisan government funding bill. Delgado is also a cosponsor of the VICTIM Act, which creates a new grant program to help local law enforcement to hire, train, and retain detectives and victim services personnel to investigate shootings and support victims. He also cosponsors the COPS on the Beat Grant Program Reauthorization and Parity Act, whichreauthorizes the Community Oriented Policing Services program and updates the program to bemore accessible for departments serving rural and low-income areas.
