Proclamation - Daffodil Days

WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering through research, education, advocacy and service; and

WHEREAS, by 2015, the American Cancer Society hopes to reduce the incidence of cancer by 25 percent, reduce cancer mortality by 50 percent, and improve measurably the quality of life for cancer survivors; and

WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society recognizes the daffodil as the first flower of spring and as a symbol of hope that cancer will be cured in our lifetime; and

WHEREAS, Daffodil Days is a national event sponsored by the American Cancer Society to generate awareness and funding for cancer research, patient services and educational programs; and

WHEREAS, the Great West Division of the American Cancer Society is working with communities throughout the state to "Paint the Town Yellow" in support of the many North Dakotans fighting a battle against cancer.

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim March 20-24, 2006, DAFFODIL DAYS in the state of North Dakota.
