U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today issued the following statement upon the news that two Americans were released after being detained in Venezuela:
"I'm very glad to hear of the release of Gustavo Cardenas and Jorge Alberto Fernández. They were unjustly held captive by the Venezuelan government, and have endured a nightmarish journey.
"The regime must immediately release the remaining, unjustly detained Americans--including the rest of the CITGO 6--so they can return home to their families in the United States.
"I've met the members of the CITGO 6 families many times, and I've heard haunting accounts of what has happened to their loved ones, as well as the physical toll it has taken them."
