Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Encourages Houstonians to File Taxes Soon to Receive Historic Tax Cuts Passed Through American Rescue Plan

Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) urges Texans to file their taxes as soon as possible to receive historic tax cuts created by the American Rescue Plan (ARP) -- which slashed child poverty by 40%. In 2021, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia delivered approximately $289.4 million in tax cuts for hardworking families in Texas 29th District through the expanded Child Tax Credit. Many Texas families will see even more tax cuts when they file their taxes this year.

"When Democrats passed the historic ARP in March, the health and well-being of working families was top of mind", said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia. "In a time when families are recovering from the pandemic's challenges, these historic tax cuts will provide further assistance by reducing child poverty rates, putting more food on the table, and helping families save critical funds."

Eligible families can ensure they receive the expanded Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit by filing their tax returns. Texans can start the process by reviewing tax filing options at ChildTaxCredit.gov, GetYourRefund.org, or by calling Congresswoman Garcia's office at (832) 325-3150.
