Rep. Budd said in a statement:
"I want to profoundly thank Maureen and Donald for meeting with me today. The tragedies that these families experienced are heartbreaking and they are in our prayers.
"Congress must act to prevent future tragedies. It is long past time for Congress to hold cities who ignore our immigration laws accountable. That's why Senator Tillis and I have been fighting for our bill, the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act. The bill would allow anyone harmed by an illegal immigrant in a sanctuary city to sue the sanctuary city or state for damages. It also withholds certain grant funding from jurisdictions that refuse to comply with federal law."
