Ahead of 2022 Winter Games, Congressional Olympic and Paralympic Caucus Co-Chairs Introduce Resolution Celebrating Team USA

Congressional Olympic and Paralympic Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI), Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), Rep. John Curtis (R-UT), and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) today introduced a resolution in support of the Team USA athletes and coaches participating in the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

On behalf of the caucus, the co-chairs also lent their support to the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games for proceeding in a safe and secure manner and affirmed their support for the goals and ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"After spending their entire lives perfecting their skills and preparing for this moment, I can't wait to see our Team USA athletes proudly represent the red, white, and blue on the world stage," said Rep. Jim Langevin (RI-02). "President Biden was exactly right to withhold our diplomatic delegation from attending these games, but I couldn't be more excited to join the rest of our country in cheering on Team USA this month."

"The Olympics are an important opportunity to exchange cultures and beliefs through competitive sports and to support all the athletes participating," saidRep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07). "While this year the U.S. is rightfully withholding diplomatic delegations from the 2022 Beijing games, I look forward to cheering on Team USA -- including 23 Coloradans -- as they compete for gold."

"A diplomatic boycott to the Olympics was the right call, and corporate sponsors of these games should address Congress's concerns over CCP coercion," saidRep. John Curtis (UT-03). "At the same time, I am thrilled to watch Team USA athletes compete and win at the highest level. It is their opportunity to prove themselves, shine and I fully expect them to proudly demonstrate American values on and off the field."

"New York's 21st District has a rich and unique Olympic tradition," said Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21). "I join the families across our district in cheering all of our North Country athletes and those representing Team USA in this year's Winter Games."

Last year, the co-chairs called for a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Games due to the Chinese Communist Party's ongoing human and civil rights abuses. Weeks later, President Biden announced that the United States will not send government officials to attend the Games.
