Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a United States Army veteran, just issued the following statement on Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine:
"Ukraine is pro-democracy and pro-freedom. Vladimir Putin is anti-democracy and anti-freedom. It's one of the simplest ways to get caught up on much of what needs to be known in assessing right from wrong as Russia declares war and invades its sovereign neighbor. The United States, along with our NATO allies, should use all available diplomatic, informational and economic instruments of national power in response to Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
"Meanwhile, we must ramp up our efforts in shoring up NATO allies, apply increased pressure at the United Nations Security Council, and, very importantly, we have to prioritize above all else our own energy security, economic interests and physical security. Some of our options today are more limited than they were previously. The Biden Administration's approach of appeasement of Russia, from their first act greenlighting the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to President Biden's recent "minor incursion' blunder, has been a strategic failure that we can't afford a United States President to ever make. We need this Administration to act smarter, sharper, and more strategically, always putting America's interest first and foremost."
