Jenniffer Gonzalez Announces $33.7 Million in Funds to Support Art Institutions and Advance Reconstruction Projects

New federal funds totaling $33,707,745.13 approved for Puerto Rico, support distance education, promote the development of the arts through local institutions, and provide financing to municipalities and local entities to continue reconstruction work, informed the Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced the most recent allocation to the Emergency Connectivity Fund program, where Puerto Rico will receive $631,149.19. In total, and including the amount announced, the Island received $88,056,229.97 among the 7 distribution phases of the FCC under this fund, which has reimbursed $75.5 million for the Department of Education and $12.6 for another 122 between private schools and municipal libraries that served support distance education, ensuring that students receive the necessary support during the pandemic.

Three organizations on the Island received funds from the National Endowment for the Arts; $15,000 for Cuarzo Blanco, Inc., $10,000 for DanzActiva, Inc. and $10,000 for the Educational Society of the Arts Inc. (or SEA Theater).

Under this competitive grant, the federal government provides support to artists and cultural institutions across the country that cover the disciplines of dance, theater, literature, among others.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved new reimbursements under its public assistance program for the reconstruction of Hurricane Maria and the earthquakes; $1,513,259.56 for the Municipality of Mayagüez, $1,852,992.90 for the Municipality of Naranjito, $1,382,331.47 for Jayuya, $1,002,510.23 for Caguas, $1,294,092.19 for San Juan, $2,036,267.18 for the Department of Natural Resources of the Municipality of Cayey3, Rico (RNA 25,3.48) , $7,153,487.93 for the Hospital Bella Vista, Inc, $2,274,181.54 for the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, $6,157,582.08 for the Department of Education of Puerto Rico, $5,931,444.73 for the Electric Power Authority and $1,095,190.94 for the State Authority for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration (AEMEAD).
