Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today announced Family Planning Association of Maine, also known as Maine Family Planning, has received a $157,000 Title X Dire Need Grant, a one-time, 15-month opportunity to support underserved areas. This award is one of eight awards totaling $6.6 million announced today by US Health and Human Services to address family planning and health care needs for clients in states impacted by restrictive laws and policies.

"For 7 out of 10 Mainers, Title X providers like Maine Family Planning is their only source of health care. From birth control and cancer screenings to regular check-ups, these basic services were put in jeopardy around the country because of the domestic gag rule implemented by the Trump Administration," said Pingree. "I applaud the Biden-Harris administration for making this critical aid available to Maine Family Planning, enabling them to provide health care to tens of thousands of Mainers who rely on them--especially as reproductive rights and health care access face continued threats nationwide."
