Governor Hochul Illuminates New York Landmarks to Commemorate National Wear Red Day

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that New York State landmarks will be lit red tonight, February 4, 2022, to mark National Wear Red Day, to bring greater attention to heart disease as a leading cause of death for Americans.

"Raising awareness for heart disease, one of the leading causes of death in the United States, is personal to me. My mother, who never smoked and had a healthy lifestyle, had a heart attack at age 56," Governor Hochul said. "No one is immune to cardiovascular disease, and by lighting our landmarks tonight we can encourage countless New Yorkers to practice better habits and promote heart health."

The landmarks to be lit in recognition of National Wear Red Day Include:

The H. Carl McCall SUNY Building
State Education Building
Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
Empire State Plaza
State Fairgrounds - Main Gate & Expo Center
