Trahan Doubles Help for Massachusetts Families to Afford Energy Costs this Winter

Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) highlighted a new report from the White House announcing a record investment to help Massachusetts' working families afford energy costs. In total, Trahan secured $307.5 million for Massachusetts through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in the historic American Rescue Plan and annual appropriations, the highest amount Massachusetts has ever received in LIHEAP to help families struggling with the costs of home heating. As Americans continue to deal with the impacts of the pandemic and high energy costs, these investments will lower the costs of staying warm this winter, and will help Massachusetts families cover utilities and pay for energy repairs.

"From stimulus checks to vaccines to food and housing assistance, the American Rescue Plan has done so much to support working families through this pandemic," said Congresswoman Trahan. "With these expanded LIHEAP funds, the historic American Rescue Plan will continue to buoy working families in the Third District and beyond by helping them afford energy costs and stay warm, safe, and healthy.
