MATSUI STATEMENT ON THE INTRODUCTION OF AMERICA COMPETES ACT OF 2022

Statement

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement on the introduction of the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology and Economic Strength (America COMPETES) Act of 2022.

"Today, the House unveiled a comprehensive package to jumpstart American manufacturing and secure crucial supply chains for generations to come," said Congresswoman Matsui. "The America COMPETES Act looks towards the future by making critical investments to give American innovators the tools to reestablish leadership in strategically important sectors of the economy. The package includes $52 billion of vital investments based on my legislation, the CHIPS for America Act, which will reassert American leadership in the strategically important semiconductor industry. The future of innovation in 5G networks, healthcare, and computing all hinge on the availability of state-of-the-art semiconductors from trusted sources. This bill will help lower the cost of consumer goods, create new jobs, and increase national security."

"The bill also includes a provision based on my legislation that will support new breakthroughs to support next generation wireless networks with Open RAN technology," Matsui continued. "Now is the time to be bold and put power in the hands of American workers and innovators. We must seize this opportunity to create American jobs and invest in our nation's future."
