DURBIN CALLS ON SENATE TO VOTE IMMEDIATELY ON DUBAI PORT DEAL

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today issued the following statement after the Senate Republican leadership refused to allow a vote on the Dubai Port deal:

"It is time for the Senate to vote on the Bush Administration's Dubai Port deal. In fact, it's long overdue. The American people believe it is a dangerous idea to surrender the security of our ports to a company run by a foreign government. I agree."

"The House Republicans stood up and said that they are going to oppose the Administration and force a vote on the issue. The Senate leadership must decide whether they want to stand with the Administration or whether they will stand with the American people against this terrible Dubai Port deal."
