Congresswoman Torres Releases Statement on Verdict in Kyle Rittenhouse Case

Statement

Date: Nov. 19, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) released the following statement in response to the news that Kyle Rittenhouse has been acquitted of all charges:

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. This verdict clearly indicates our criminal justice system is full of people like this judge, whose priority is not to carry out justice under the law, but according to his own personal beliefs," said Rep. Torres. "Our country is already facing a crisis of gun violence and racist attacks, and this decision sends a clear message to future right-wing vigilantes that they can carry out such violence with impunity. We must continue to work together every day to fix this broken system and ensure all Americans are granted justice and equality under the law. You can make a difference - by serving jury duty when you are called, by voting, and by speaking out against injustice in your community."

Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of five felony counts after fatally shooting two people and injuring a third last year in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
