Spanberger Announces More than $107 Million for Virginia Bridge Repair & Construction through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today announced an award of more than $107 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for bridge repair and replacement across Virginia, which is home to approximately 577 bridges in need of repair.

Through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), USDOT launched the largest bridge formula program in American history -- made possible by the bipartisan infrastructure law, which Spanberger helped negotiate and voted to pass late last year. In the program's first round of funding, Virginia was awarded $107,424,998 for bridge projects in fiscal year 2022.

"More than 500 bridges across Virginia are in need of repair. Such an urgent issue of public safety cannot be ignored, and this major investment in Virginia's infrastructure must be used by VDOT and the incoming Youngkin Administration to make improvements as soon as possible," said Spanberger. "This funding will allow our Commonwealth to fix bridges in poor condition, help prevent congestion, increase weight restrictions, and make our roads safer for drivers and first responders. Additionally, it will help create and sustain good-paying construction jobs throughout our area -- while keeping our physical infrastructure competitive. For these reasons, I was proud to be one of the bipartisan infrastructure law's strongest supporters in Congress -- and I am even prouder to see this funding begin delivering results directly to the people of Virginia."
