Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) today released the following statement after voting against H. Res. 789, Censuring and Committee Removal of Representative Paul Gosar:
"Going back to 1789, the majority in the House has never kicked members of the minority off of committees--and Speaker Pelosi has made history by doing it four times this year. I denounce all forms of threats, violence, or perceived violence against Members, no matter the party. I could've voted to censure but kicking people off their committee sets a terrible precedent that will come back to haunt the Democrats in 2023. This new precedence will become the normal, will damage the institution, and will exacerbate the hyper-partisan dysfunction in Washington. There is already a process in place for these instances and that is to refer it to the House Ethics Committee. They should review the case and determine the proper consequences."
