Gonzalez & Green Reintroduce Bill to Promote Taiwan's Membership in the International Monetary Fund

Today, U.S. Representatives Anthony Gonzalez (OH-16) and Al Green (TX-09) reintroduced the Taiwan Non-Discrimination Act of 2021, a bill requiring the United States to seek Taiwan's membership and meaningful participation at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"The United States will always stand by Taiwan and support its efforts to participate in international institutions," Gonzalez said. Taiwan's participation in the IMF as a leading world economy will be essential to helping the Fund achieve its objectives while also taking a stand against the CCP's threat to international institutions. I am proud to reintroduce this bill that would give Taiwan a seat at the table in response to the ever growing threat posed by China's authoritarian government."

"Congressman Gonzalez and I are proud to introduce a bill that paves the way for Taiwan's return to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF is an international organization that strives to ensure economic stability worldwide, and as such, Taiwan's entry is of paramount importance," Green said. "The rapidly expanding and diversified Taiwanese economy is a global leader that deserves a role in the IMF. Our bill would require the U.S. Governor of the IMF to use the voice and vote of the U.S. to urge Taiwan's participation and membership in the Fund."
