CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ ANNOUNCES $14.7 MILLION FOR HIDALGO COUNTY HEAD START

On Thursday, December 2, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced a $14,797,266 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Hidalgo County Head Start Program, Inc.

The Head Start Program, housed within the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, promotes school readiness for children aged three to five from low-income households. The program will focus on enhancing cognitive, social, and emotional development with an emphasis on building familial relationships.

This grant will deliver the first installment of the five-year grant starting January 1, 2022. This program will serve 3,690 Head Start children in Hidalgo County. For the past 35 years they have been delivering comprehensive child development services to advance the economic and social well-being of children and families in the region.

"When we take a holistic approach to a child's education, we are able to better prepare them with the skills and confidence to grow not only in school, but in all areas of life," said Congressman Gonzalez. "I am proud to award Hidalgo County Head Start Inc. with this grant so they can continue supporting our next generation of leaders."
