Dear Friends,
I am proud to stand with the freedom-fighting people in Cuba, both on the island and those around the world who form part of the Exile. It is time for the Biden Administration to do everything in its capability to support the freedom fighters.
The behavior of the Cuban regime cannot be tolerated anymore. We are carefully watching what is currently unfolding in Cuba. The time of empty words and roundtable discussions is over. Its brazen abuse of the Cuban people, its violations of human rights, trafficking of its own people, and the corruption and loot of the country's wealth, can no longer be ignored by this Administration.
We must demand that the Department of State take the following steps ahead of the November 15 protests:
1) Condemn the communist Cuban regime for decades of oppression,
2) Condemn the communist Cuban regime for any acts of violence against protestors,
3) Condemn the evils of communism that have led to misery, poverty, and the stifling of basic and fundamental human rights,
4) Support the mission of the protestors in Cuba, which includes releasing all political prisoners, establishing free and democratic elections, and legalization of a free and independent press, trade unions, and political parties,
5) Condemn forced internet shutdowns by the Cuban regime and have a strategy to restore internet to the Cuban people during regime blackouts,
6) Commit to the United States continuing its policy of maximum pressure on the communist Cuban regime until a genuine democratic transition is underway.
The events of July 11 were not just ordinary demonstrations. They were some of the strongest and most widespread manifestations for freedom and democracy in 62 years of the dictatorship. These are not demands for palliative measures but served as the unified voices of the Cuban people demanding "libertad."
The United States, and this Administration in particular, must send a clear message that any aggression, mistreatment, murder, torture, or other human rights abuses perpetrated by the regime will not be tolerated.
