Today, Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) helped introduce the Supporting Every at-Risk Veteran In Critical Emergencies (SERVICE) Act. The bill creates a pilot grant program for veteran response teams at law enforcement agencies.

A Veteran Response Team would consist of law enforcement officers that are also veterans. Members of the team would be available to respond to specific instances of a veteran who is in crisis.

The bill was led by Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL).

Rep. Budd said in a statement:

"When those who bravely served our country return home, they often have specific needs that require unique support. This bill will create Veteran Response Teams designed to empower veterans to help their brothers and sisters in arms who are facing a crisis. I'd like to thank Rep. Salazar for her leadership on this innovative legislation."
