Today, Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) released a statement applauding the passage of S. 921, the Jaime Zapata and Victor Avila Federal Officers and Employees Protection Act.

Rep. Budd was a co-sponsor of the House version of the bill, H.R. 2137.

The bipartisan bill "explicitly grants extraterritorial jurisdiction over criminal conduct involving the killing (or attempted killing) of a federal officer or employee. The United States may prosecute such conduct that occurs outside the United States."

Rep. Budd released the following statement:

"Anyone who harms or attempts to harm a federal officer should be brought to justice, period. I'm glad that this bipartisan bill passed the House and will soon be law. We must always have the backs of the thousands of law enforcement officers who patrol our border and keep drugs and crime out of our country."
