Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) has co-sponsored H. Con. Res. 44, the Fiscal State of the Nation Resolution. This bipartisan legislation would "require the Comptroller General to present the Financial Report of the United States Government to an annual joint hearing of the House and Senate Budget Committees."

The resolution was originally introduced by Reps. Andy Barr (R-KY) and Kathleen Rice (D-NY).

The resolution has been endorsed by Americans for Tax Reform, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, Concord Coalition, and the National Taxpayers Union.

Rep. Budd said in a statement:

"The current state of our country's finances is dangerous and reckless. The American people need to hear an unvarnished state of our fiscal situation every year and so do lawmakers. Holding public hearings would be a basic way of illustrating the peril the national debt poses to future generations of Americans. I'd like to thank Reps. Barr and Rice for leading this resolution."
