Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) has sponsored H.R. 5490, the bipartisan Foreign Adversary Risk Management (FARM) Act. The bill would designate the U.S. agriculture industry and its supply chains as critical infrastructure, thereby adding a layer of oversight to ensure that foreign investment does not lead to foreign interference.
Rep. Budd said in a statement:
"Agriculture is North Carolina's primary industry and we must protect it from foreign interference, particularly from China. These supply chains must be safeguarded from hostile state actors who do not have America's best interests at heart. I'd like to thank Reps. Jackson and Vela for leading this critical bill."
