Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) has sponsored H.R.4212, Flag Code Modernization Act. The bipartisan bill would amend the U.S. Flag Code to expand the number of American flag displays permitted under federal law. Many flag customs are already commonplace, and the Flag Code Modernization Act would officially make them legal.

The bill is supported by the American Legion and was originally introduced by Reps. Steve Womack (R-KA) and Jared Golden (D-ME).

Rep. Budd said in a statement:

"The American flag is a universal symbol of patriotism, freedom, and our country's exceptionalism. It makes all the sense in the world to allow Americans to display the flag in more locations and on more days of the year."
