CONGRESSMAN ADERHOLT STATEMENT ON UAE PORT DEAL

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today made the following statement on the proposed takeover of Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co. by Dubai Ports World of the United Arab Emirates, giving Dubai Ports World operational management of six prominent U.S. ports:

"I will be cosponsoring legislation that will put the takeover on hold for a 45-day investigation, provide Congress with all the facts, and in the end, give Congress the right to cancel the deal. We all agree that if this deal isn't in the best interest of our national security it should be cancelled, and I will fight for that.

"Our national security is of utmost importance, and we must do all that we can to protect the United States."
