Dear Mayor Khan,
I write to you today to humbly request the passage of a resolution by the Irvine City Council to establish a veterans' cemetery in Anaheim Hills.
As you are aware, the veteran community and thirty-three cities in Orange County have endorsed establishing a final resting place for our fallen heroes on land in Anaheim Hills already zoned specifically for cemetery use. Additionally, a bipartisan cohort of OC state and federal elected officials have also joined the coalition supporting the Gypsum Canyon site. Further, the County of Orange, the landowner, has committed $20 million to the project.
By passing this resolution in support of the Gypsum Canyon site, the City of Irvine will become the 34th and final city in Orange County to support this effort. But, most importantly, an endorsement by the City of Irvine will send an important message of support to the more than 130,000 veterans living in Orange County.
