Capito Concerned by United Arab Emirates Port Deal

CHARLESTON, WV -(2/21)- Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito released a statement today expressing her concern that Dubai Ports World, a United Arab Emirates-based firm, might assume control of operations in six U.S. ports.

"Quite honestly, when I heard a company based in the United Arab Emirates might soon be managing six American ports, I shook my head in disbelief. I believe that keeping the American people safe is and must continue to be the government's number one duty, so I have serious questions when I hear some of our ports might be managed under these circumstances. Port security is extremely important to our homeland security and I think we as a Congress should thoroughly review this proposed transaction. In a post-September 11th era, guarding ports is an especially important job. So it's vital that we know American ports are always in trustworthy hands."
