Rep Vargas' Statement on Parliamentarian's Decision on Budget Reconcilation Bill

Washington, DC (September 20, 2021) -- Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement regarding the Senate Parliamentarian's decision:

"I am disappointed in the Senate Parliamentarian's decision to exclude the proposal to create pathways to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders, farm workers and essential workers. This proposal would have had a direct budget impact, yielding approximately $1.5 trillion over ten years in economic growth.

I look forward to seeing the alternative proposal submitted to the Parliamentarian by Senate Democrats and remain confident that we will secure a path forward on immigration reform. These essential workers have and will continue working the frontlines -- putting food on our tables and caring for our sick -- while paying their taxes. It is our moral duty to create a path forward that will lead the hard-working immigrants living in the shadows of our nation to permanent status and citizenship."
