Brown Praises Inclusion Of Initiative To Improve Relationships Between Servicemembers And Military Communities In FY22 NDAA

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, praised the inclusion of his amendment to direct the Department of Defense to conduct regular extensive surveys to improve the relationships between servicemembers and military communities:

"Our efforts toward diversity and inclusion extends beyond the fence of our installations. Recent studies have shown that our Black and brown service members and their families experience discrimination in the communities they are stationed in. That's unacceptable and must change. Our military families sacrifice so much for our country, we need to ensure their community isn't just an assignment, but a home.

"We have more work to do to ensure our military families are set up for success in every community and work with the Department to ensure they have the charter and resources to conduct regular and extensive surveys on these matters to drive change. The inclusion of my provision to begin these surveys of our military communities is a step forward to improving the critical bonds and relationships between our servicemembers, military families, their neighbors and fellow Americans."
