Rogers Comments Regarding UAE Port Deal
Wednesday, February 22, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05), chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement regarding the proposal to transfer operational management of six American seaports to Dubai World Ports:
"Like Speaker Hastert and other members of Congress, I have concerns about the national security implications of the UAE Port deal. Congress has both a responsibility and an obligation to assess the risks involved with this agreement. I am voicing my concerns directly to the White House and hope the Administration will listen so we can fully debate this subject. My Subcommittee will be reviewing and asking pointed questions about the UAE Port deal in the coming weeks."
