Lofgren Criticizes One-Two Punch to California's Federal Funding

February 6, 2006

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose), Chair of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation, today issued the following statement on the President's Fiscal Year 2007 budget:

"California has taken a one-two punch from the federal government over the past week. Last Wednesday, it was the passage of the GOP budget reconciliation bill that is a $3.1 billion hit for California. Today's release of the President's budget carries more bad news for things that matter to Californians.

"It was Governor Schwarzenegger who declared himself ‘The Collectinator.' He promised that he would lead the federal government to provide a fairer fiscal deal for California. After two years of hearing this, the promises are unfilled, just empty words. It looks like Governor Schwarzenegger is just too weak, just not strong enough, to deliver the fair share of federal funds he promised to California."
