Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Ted Budd has co-sponsored H.R. 2355, the Opioid Prescription Verification Act. The bill was originally introduced by Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL).

The legislation would provide additional training to help pharmacists identify and report bad actors who attempt to "pharmacy shop" and stock up and deal in controlled substances. The bill also allows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prioritize federal funding to states that implement strong statewide reporting systems.

Rep. Ted Budd said in a statement:

"One of the best ways to fight the opioid crisis is to target the dealers who traffic in these controlled substances. This bill would go a long way to help pharmacists identify and report criminals who perpetuate addiction and ruin the lives of thousands of our fellow Americans. I'd like to thank Rep Davis for leading this important piece of legislation."
