Rep. ted Budd Sponsors Bill to Expel Illegal Aliens from Covid Hot Spots

Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) has co-sponsored H.R. 4416, the Securing the Homeland from International Entrants with Life-threatening Diseases (SHIELD) Act.

The bill would codify public health code Title 42, which allows U.S. authorities to swiftly expel illegal aliens who enter the United States from countries with high levels of COVID-19. The bill was originally introduced by Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-NM). Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced the Senate version of the bill.

Rep. Budd said in a statement:

"Title 42 has been an extremely useful statute in stemming the tide of illegal aliens across the southern border during the pandemic. The fact the Biden administration is trying to eliminate this provision is further evidence of their dangerous open borders agenda, which puts Americans in harm's way. We should make Title 42 permanent and I'm glad to join Rep. Herrell on a bill that does that."
