Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Responds to Katrina Report
WASHINGTONCongressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today responded to the Congressional panel's report on the federal response to Hurricane Katrina:
"The House panel's report today is a fair, hard-hitting and comprehensive examination of the federal response to Hurricane Katrina. While this report focuses mostly on the federal level, it is important to remember that there were failures at every level of government - especially at the local and state level. Congress will now take this report and look at ways to improve our nation's response to catastrophic natural disasters.
"Once again, Republicans took the lead in this investigation while Democrat leadership scoffed from the sidelines. Democrats were boycotting this panel and wanting to outsource Congressional oversight duties. That is irresponsible and no way to lead. We were elected to serve the American people and I applaud this panel for taking that responsibility seriously."
