Congressman Bishop Applauds $13 Million Grant to Cordele for COVID-19 Response Effort

Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) applauded last week's $13,435,552 grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to the Georgia Department of Community Health in Cordele for testing and other COVID-19 mitigation efforts. The funds were made possible by the American Rescue Plan's Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program (SHIP).

"We continue to face tremendous challenges in Southwest Georgia in fighting COVID-19. This SHIP grant will help Cordele and its surrounding communities test, treat, and vaccinate people so that we can stop the spread of COVID-19 and get back on the road to recovery," said Congressman Bishop.

Small rural hospitals--those with fewer than 50 beds and Critical Access Hospitals--are key health care resources in their communities. The funds provided by this SHIP grant help hospitals improve COVID-19 testing, expand access to testing for rural residents, and shape public health relief efforts to address local needs.
