WASHINGTON, D.C. [7/15/21]--Today, U.S. Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.) said that the Clean Electricity Standard (CES) she has championed is included in the budget deal, and shared this helpful primer on how a CES will play an important role in the nation's transition to a clean energy future.

"A Clean Electricity Standard is the cornerstone of the progressive, practical transformation to a clean energy future we urgently need," said Sen. Smith. "Getting it included in the budget package sends a strong signal we are committed to tackling climate change. I will continue to work hard on getting a CES done because we cannot squander this moment. We can either lead or follow when it comes to the clean energy transition, and I want us to lead."
