Senators McConnell And Bunning Praise President Bush's Nominee For U.S. Attorney For The Eastern District Of Kentucky

*President Bush nominates Edgewood, Kentucky resident for U.S. Attorney*

U.S. Senators Mitch McConnell and Jim Bunning released the following statement today following President George W. Bush's nomination of Amul R. Thapar to be the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

"President Bush has selected an exceptional individual to replace Greg Van Tatenhove as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky," said Senator McConnell. "Amul Thapar has impressive credentials and will make an outstanding U.S. Attorney. I look forward to swift Senate approval of his nomination."

"I am highly supportive of President Bush nominating Amul to be the U.S. Attorney for Kentucky's Eastern District," said Senator Bunning. "Aside from being a talented and experienced attorney who has already served with distinction, in my conversations and meetings with Amul, he is honorable and has great character. I look forward to his confirmation by the Senate and am eager for him to serve as our U.S. Attorney."

Mr. Thapar, a resident of Edgewood, Kentucky, currently serves as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Ohio. He previously worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

Mr. Thapar is a graduate of Boston College and earned a law degree from the University of California.
