Dear Chairwoman DeLauro, Chairman Cartwright, Ranking Member Granger, and Ranking Member
Aderholt,

We respectfully request you to increase funding for the Byrne Justice Assistance (Byrne JAG) Program and the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) programs. These important community policing program provide local and state law enforcement with the resources, personnel, and programs needed to serve our communities. We are requesting $100 million in increased funding over Fiscal Year 2021 levels to help law enforcement address crime, violence, and more across America.

Byrne JAG and COPS have helped local law enforcement train, hire, and purchase equipment that are vital to serving our communities. These funding programs are particularly vital to our small and rural communities who rely on federal assistance for trainings, and prevention programs for international drug trafficking, gun violence, and crime.

As state budgets and local economies begin to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, federal assistance to local law enforcement will continue to support not just law enforcement, but the judicial process including addiction treatment and recovery, support victims of crime, community initiatives, and much more. As concerns that violent crime has increased, we know this funding will be used to protect and serve our communities.

We thank you for your work on the Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations bills. Increased support for Byrne JAG and COPS will support and increase safety within our communities.
