Rep. Delgado Votes to Restore Critical Protections for Americans

This week, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) voted to restore critical protections for employees, consumers, and the environment that were gutted by the previous administration. The House took this important action via three Resolutions of Disapproval under the Congressional Review Act: S.J. Res. 13, S.J. Res. 14, and S.J. Res. 15.

"I am proud to support these resolutions, which roll back anti-worker, anti-consumer, and anti-environment policies of the previous administration," said Rep. Delgado. "From reinstating Clean Air Act pollution standards that limit toxic methane emissions to stopping predatory lenders from preying on working families, these protections are for the people -- not special interests."

S.J. Res. 13 strengthens the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's ability to protect working people against discrimination. By ending the damaging Conciliation Rule, this resolution will make it easier for victims of unlawful discrimination to seek legal recourse.

S.J. Res. 14 eliminates the previous administration's predatory "True Lender" rule, which allows predatory lenders like payday lenders to partner with banks to bypass state laws that protect consumers from high-interest rates. Reversing this harmful policy will ensure lenders abide by state interest rate caps -- protecting families, especially in communities of color and women-led households, from being charged unreasonably high-interest rates that often reach triple digits.

S.J. Res. 15 restores protections against dangerous methane emissions from the oil and gas industry, which the previous administration gutted. This legislation has bipartisan support and will reinstate robust Clean Air Act pollution standards and make a significant difference for public health and in the fight against the climate crisis.

Now that these Disapproval Resolutions have passed the House and Senate, they go to President Biden's desk for his signature.
