Moore, Cleaver to Hand-Deliver Valentines to Hospitalized Vets

MOORE, CLEAVER TO HAND-DELIVER VALENTINES TO HOSPITALIZED VETS

(Kansas City)—Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District - Kansas) and Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II (Fifth District - Missouri) will show their gratitude for the men and women who have served our country by hand-delivering "Valentines for Veterans." This national program gives elementary school children the opportunity to make valentines for hospitalized veterans who may not have friends or family in the area to remember them on that special day.

"This is a small gesture compared to the great gift these veterans have given each of us. I am honored to serve as mailman from one generation to another." Cleaver said, "These little valentines are made by the children our veterans fought for, who live in the peace our veterans died for — what a sweet sentiment to say thank you. This Valentine's Day, let's all take a cue from these children and thank the veterans close to us."

Over 61,000 veterans are hospitalized on any given day. Veterans service organizations around the country help put the valentines in the hands of patients at Veterans Administration facilities, including those in Kansas City and Leavenworth.

"I visited 150 grade school children at New Stanley Elementary School in Kansas City, Kansas last Friday to talk to them about how meaningful their valentines are and let them know what a difference they were making in the lives of our veterans," Moore said. "I'm so grateful that those wonderful little people took the time to show their appreciation and remind us all to recognize and honor the sacrifice of our veterans this Valentine's Day and every day of the year."
